Learn to write, then write to learn...

“WE CAN DO ANYTHING, BUT WE CAN’T DO EVERYTHING”
Winfield Middle School Parent Blog - October 3, 2016
Just a sample of books on our principals top shelf. Each one has influenced the way the building operates on a day to day basis,as well as from year to year. Does it work? How long does it take for overnight success?
Good to Great?
This metaphor describing the quest for getting “there” is only partially correct. Great is not a destination! It is not a final location, or place to end up, but a way of doing things along the way. Thus, becoming “great” is more of a phrase describing an action.  It is our methodology that takes us to the next level.  We do not arrive and quit once we become great. Here’s why I say that...
Our fundraiser, link here to order can accumulate funds to spend on the students for their hard work and success. This year we are planning a trip to Brunswick. The more folks buy, the more support we earn, and the more we can spend on the students.

Does Behavior work like Content?
At the middle school, we spend a larger portion of our time teaching children proper behavior, manners, and the differences between students being mean, rude, and bullying. These differences help students reconcile peer conflict, understand the imbalance of power associated with bullying, and how sometimes people are rude when they unintentionally act like that. They just don’t know how to be nice, yet!

#BlindTasteTest
Getting ready for a “blind taste test” in science class.  These students know their teacher, Mr. U has a great surprise in store and they #cantwait to get into class!

Learn to read, then Read to learn!
Improve reading, improve learning.
Learn to write, then Write to learn!
Improve writing, improve learning.
This process is a continuum of growth in each and every person. As we develop in the areas of reading and writing, we develop in our ability to think deeply and more abstractly about concepts and applications. The more we read and write about it, the deeper and longer we can think about concept. Start small and grow into longer and more complex pieces.
